Kimera Evo38: A Stunning Homage to the Lancia 037—Now with Hybrid Power and 4WD
The wait is over—Kimera has finally revealed the production-ready Evo38, just in time for its grand debut at Monterey Car Week. And it’s every bit as thrilling as we hoped: nearly 600 horsepower, a mild-hybrid boost, and—in a major departure from the original—four-wheel drive.

This isn’t just a restomod; it’s a what-if machine. What if the legendary Lancia 037—the last rear-wheel-drive car to win a WRC constructor’s title—had kept evolving past 1992? The Evo38 answers that question with a bold reimagining, building on Kimera’s earlier Evo37 but dialing everything up to 11.
What’s New?
From RWD to AWD: The original 037 was all about tail-happy rally slides, but the Evo38 adds a Torsen limited-slip differential and adjustable torque distribution. Want pure, old-school RWD? A cockpit switch lets you send power only to the rear—because sometimes, you just need to drift.
Brutal Power Upgrades: The 2.2-liter turbo-supercharged four-cylinder now makes 592 hp (up from 500), thanks to a 48V hybrid system and a wild dual-mode exhaust that flips between "civilized" and "combat helicopter" (Kimera’s words, not ours).
Exposed Engineering Porn: A glass-covered driveshaft runs through the cabin like a spine, linking the front axle to the mid-mounted engine—because why hide something this cool?
Lighter & Sharper: Despite the AWD hardware, the Evo38 sheds weight (down to ~1,100kg) and gains a 6-speed manual with a billet-aluminum linkage, push-rod suspension, and a turbo cooler integrated into the strut brace.
Limited, Luxurious, and (Almost) Sold Out
Only 38 will be built, and most are already claimed. Price? Expect around £500,000—if you can even get one.
Inside, it’s a driver’s playground: carbon fiber, Alcantara, hand-stitched leather, and a dashboard full of knobs to tweak engine maps, traction control, ABS, suspension, and torque split. Oh, and there’s a hydraulic handbrake, because rally heritage demands it.
What’s Next for Kimera?
With the Evo38 nearly sold out, rumors are swirling about their next project. A Lancia Thema 8.32 revival? We can dream.
For now, the Evo38 is the ultimate love letter to rally history—a fire-breathing, hybrid-assisted, AWD monster wrapped in Italian artistry. The 037 would be proud.
🔥 Would you choose RWD mode—or go full 4WD?
